Volvo C40 Recharge upgraded – with no price increase

The C40 Recharge Pure Electric (soon to be rebadged as EC40) crossover SUV has been updated for model year 2024. The updates for the locally-assembled model are a larger battery pack and switch to intelligent pixel headlight technology and more importantly, increased range of up to 550 kms as well as faster DC charging.

Also new are the 19-inch alloy wheels with an aerodynamic design and a new exterior colour option of Vapour Grey. This joins the other choices of Onyx Black, Crystal White, Fjord Blue, and Sage Green.

Standard all-wheel drive
For the local market, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) is offering the top-of-the-line version with a twin motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) which has a more powerful, second-generation permanent magnet rear electric motor developed in-house by the Swedish carmaker.

This replaces the previous set-up of two 150kW e-motors with a higher output of 183 kW at the rear axle and a new 117kW asynchronous electric motor on the front axle. With this new powertrains,  maximum power output is up to 300 kW.

Range increased by 100 kms
The larger battery pack now has a capacity of 82 kWh, an additional 4 kWh from the previous battery pack which, together with improvements in overall efficiency, extend the claimed range to 100 kms more.

The new battery pack (shown above) can also handle DC supply of up to 200 kW so that charging time can be shorter. According to VCM, going from 10% to 80% can be done within 27 minutes. It adds that the actual charging time will be dependent on factors such as outdoor temperature, current battery temperature, charging equipment, battery condition and car condition.

Free digital services for first 5 years
Besides the 5-year/unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty, VCM also provides complimentary Digital Services for access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store and Volvo Cars app remote functions for the first 5 years of ownership.

No increase in price
The good news is that even with these meaningful upgrades, the price of the C40 is not changed and it is still priced at RM288,888 (excluding insurance in Peninsular Malaysia). From now until March 31,  2024, VCM is also offering a RM10,000 discount for orders of the C40 made via its online channel.
