The third model in the JAECOO line-up for the Malaysian market is now underway at the Chery Corporate Malaysia plant in Shah Alam, Selangor. This is the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) version of the J7 that was launched in July 2024. The J7 PHEV will be launched on February 28, 2025.
RM170.00 – RM180,000
While it has an electrified powertrain, the government does not give tax-exemptions on hybrids like fully electric vehicles but the price will still be moderated by other incentives for local assembly. Like the J7, the PHEV variant will be available with 2WD and AWD, with an estimated price from RM170,000 to RM180,000.
A PHEV has an electric motor and a combustion engine which, in the case of the J7 PHEV, is 1.5 litres with an output of 141 ps/215 Nm. The total system output is around 347 ps/525 Nm. The motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack with an 18.3 kW capacity.
While similar to self-charging hybrid systems, a PHEV can be recharged so it has a battery pack with a lager capacity. This enables a pure electric range of 106 kms and with the motor doing some of the propulsion, the cruising range can be extended greatly.

Super Hybrid System
JAECOO’s Super Hybrid System Technology enables the J7 PHEV to maintain an efficient and energy-saving driving state. In a media drive from Singapore to Hat Yai last month, 5 of the SUVs exceeded a range of 1,200 kms – without recharging and refuelling – with one covering a total of 1,427.5 kms. During the drive, the pure electric range achieved was 108 kms. Overall, the fuel consumption of the PHEV worked out to be 28.6 kms/litre, which surpassed the standard of 15.1 kms/litre.
JAECOO J7 PHEV can do up to 1,427 kms on a single tank and charge
