Tesla continues the roll-out of its Supercharger network in Malaysia with the announcement of the activation of a station at Sunway Big Box at Bandar Sunway Iskandar Puteri in Johor. The opening of this Supercharger station is expected to serve not only Tesla owners in Malaysia but also those in Singapore who come across the Causeway regularly.
The Johor site, which has four charging points, joins the first one which was opened at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, and also those at the Tesla Centre in Cyberjaya.
Optimised charging for Tesla EVs
The Superchargers are V3 versions with a 250 kW supply, so they can recharge a battery park very quickly. Designed by Tesla, they have been optimised to work efficiently with the brand’s own electric vehicles.
Furthermore, integrated support for Tesla vehicles and the mobile app enables owners to navigate, precondition the vehicle battery, and access the charging station for a hassle-free experience. This includes real-time monitoring of charger availability, charging status, payment, and technical support, among other features.
Special rate
To commemorate the opening of the station, Tesla owners can enjoy a special Supercharging rate of RM0.63/kWh (normal will be RM1.25/kWh) for a limited time. The charging stations will operated from 10 am to 10 pm and while there is no charge for access to them at Sunway Big Box, there is an idle charge of up to RM4/minute when Supercharging station is 100% occupied. This applies after the vehicle’s charging period has ended.
While Tesla Malaysia has not delivered any cars yet, there are some units brought in earlier by private importers already in use. It is not known if Tesla will permit its Superchargers to be used by vehicles of other brands, although it does so in some countries.
