When Tesla began operations in July last year and began setting up its Supercharger (DC supply) and Destination Charger (AC supply) station network, it seemed to focus only on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Understandably, that’s where most cars are sold but the East Coast is also a popular motoring destination, not to mention home to many people who go back during festive holidays (like this weekend).
So it would be expected that the network would include the East Coast and now it does with the opening of a Supercharger station in Kuantan, Pahang, Located at the premises of Majlis Bandaraya Kuantan, the Supercharger site has 4 Superchargers which can provide high-speed recharging at RM1.25/kWh – but only when using the Tesla app which is only applicable to Tesla vehicles.
The network in Malaysia now totals 11 stations with 52 Superchargers and 57 Destination Chargers. Tesla Malaysia says it will continue to expand the network to meet the growing demand for facilities.
Having had a head-start on building its charging network since 2012, it’s not surprising that Tesla has the largest network globally – certainly leading with DC fast-chargers. To date, its network consists of over 5,500 Supercharger stations and each station can have a number of charging points.
