Tesla Malaysia adds more V4 Superchargers

Tesla Malaysia has installed and activated 4 V4 Superchargers at The Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur. Charging fees are currently set at RM1.13 per kWh. There is also one Destination Charger at the same location which provides AC charging which is less powerful and therefore slower (50 – 70 kms of range in an hour). However, Tesla owners can charge for free at this and other Destination Chargers in Malaysia.

In May 2024, Malaysia was the first country in Southeast Asia to get the Tesla V4 Supercharger. This more powerful charging point was installed at IOI City Mall and IOI Mall Puchong located in Putrajaya and Selangor, respectively.

Difference between V3 and V4
The most obvious difference between the V3 and V4 is that the V3 has a large vertical ‘hole’ in its design whereas the V4 is a solid panel. The V4 is also 260 mm taller but 127 mm narrower and has a black and white theme as opposed to the red and white of the V3 Supercharger.

Tesla V4 Supercharger for EV

Tesla V4 Superchargers are equipped with a longer cable (3 metres)  – one whole metre more than the one on the V3 – which should add to convenience when connecting to the car.

The V4 charger currently supports peak rates of up to 250 kW per vehicle, shortening charging time. However, at this time, the latest Supercharger supports a DC power supply of only up to 250 kW per vehicle, which is similar to the rating for the V3. When connected to a Model 3 or Model Y, 15 minutes of charging can provide up to 282 kms of range.

The V4 chargers are also future-proofed to allow for updates and new features. One of the updates could be an increase in power supply to 350 kW, which the V4 Supercharger is believed to be designed for.

Designed and made by Tesla
The Superchargers are designed and made by Tesla, ensuring that recharging is at its best with the brand’s models. Having had a head-start on building its charging network since 2012, it’s not surprising that Tesla has the largest network globally – certainly leading with DC fast-chargers. Depending on the location, the DC power supply is either 72 kW, 100 kW, 150 kW or 250 kW.
