On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of its business association with UD Trucks, Tan Chong Industrial Equipment Sdn Bhd (TCIE), continued its role as a pioneer in the commercial vehicle industry in Malaysia with the introduction of the new Euro5 range for the well-established Quester (heavy-duty) and Croner (medium-duty) trucks.

Ahead of market regulations
The launch of the new UD Euro5 range is ahead of market regulations in Malaysia. The new Euro5 Quester and Croner are UD Trucks’ first models designed specifically for markets outside of Japan. The range has recently been introduced in fast-growing and emerging regions around the world, as many countries are moving towards adopting more stringent international emission standards in a bid to curb pollution and improve air quality.

This latest launch bolsters UD Trucks’ Better Life purpose – to be better for the planet, people, and growth. Better Life drives the integration of sustainability across all of the company’s operations and processes to realize lower environmental impact, higher customer satisfaction, higher profitability, and a better place for people to work and live.

Steve Hedouin, Managing Director Hub Malaysia, UD Trucks said: “With air pollution being one of the biggest health threats and the transport sector facing increasing environmental pressure and business challenges, this is an era where sustainable logistics has become even more critical than ever before. As industry players, we need to embrace and make positive changes to reduce emissions and future-proof our business operations.”

“The new Euro5 Quester and Croner give customers the leverage they can depend on for furthering their business productivity, all while minimizing their environmental impact and helping them stay competitive,” said Mr. Hedouin.

The new UD Trucks can now use the much cleaner Euro5 diesel from BHPetrol which was the first brand in the country to introduce Euro5 fuel in 2014.

Selective Catalytic Reduction technology
Besides upgraded features that will improve uptime, efficiency, and optimize Total Cost of Ownership for truck owners – while lowering the vehicle’s environmental impact – the new Euro5 range features the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to significantly boost environmental protection and fuel economy.

UD Trucks was the first truck manufacturer to introduce SCR technology in 2004, and this technology has proven to be more reliable when compared to other emission control technologies for reducing nitrogen oxides emission. SCR technology can reduce toxic nitrogen oxides by 60% and particulate matter emissions by 80% less (compared to current Euro3 levels). Even when compared with Euro4 levels, nitrogen oxides are 43% less. Moreover, Euro5 engines also have a lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than an equivalent Euro3 truck.

The SCR technology also delivers improved total cost of ownership with lower maintenance requirements, compared to other available emission control technologies. Drivers will also appreciate the higher power and torque available through optimized combustion without engine displacement being larger.

Supported by AdBlue
This is further supported by the availability of AdBlue, a safe-to-use diesel exhaust fluid used in vehicles with SCR technology to reduce harmful gases from being released into the atmosphere, at all TCIE’s 26 branches and dealers throughout Malaysia.

Business uptime is also enhanced with revised service intervals which require less time required for maintenance. With a cleaner and more robust engine and lower sensitivity to sulphur content in fuel, the SCR technology contributes to longer engine life and reduced environmental pollution.

“The offering of the new Euro5 range reflects TCIE’s and UD Trucks’ shared commitment in supporting Malaysia’s environmental, social and governance agenda and in meeting the needs of modern transport operators in a changing world environment. “The new Euro5 range offers all of the additional advantages to help our customers go the extra mile efficiently and responsibly whilst retaining all other existing benefits that Quester and Croner have been delivering,” said Say Teck Ming, Chief Operating Officer of TCIE.

He added that, leveraging on TCIE’s strengths, the new Euro5 Quester and Croner trucks will be assembled in Malaysia at the Tan Chong Group’s own manufacturing facility.
