New vehicle deliveries in October totalled 74,896 units, a 10% increase over September’s volume and the second highest volume this year. It was also the third time this year the monthly Total Industry Volume of sales exceeded the 70,000-unit level.
According to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), which has been compiling industry data since the 1960s, the strong growth was primarily in the passenger vehicle segment (excluding pick-up trucks), with a large contribution by the two national brands.
While the MAA expects November sales to be at the same level as October’s, it is likely that certain companies will see a surge in bookings during these two months. Proton has been taking bookings for its new S70 to be launched soon, while Honda Malaysia today started taking bookings for the new CR-V which will be launched in December.
Additionally, many companies will be having promotions to clear stocks before the year ends, and they will be offering incentives to customers to buy and register their vehicles in 2023. This will likely boost sales numbers in December. There is optimism in the industry that 2023 could register slightly higher sales than 2022 which was a record year.
