smart Malaysia collaborates with DBKL at Earth Day event

We’re all aware of the need to protect the planet’s environment, not only for our current generation but also for future ones. Before, it was about preventing air quality from worsening and the rivers and seas from dying from pollution. Today, global warming and what it will do to us is an even greater threat that needs to be urgently addressed.

The start of Earth Day
The awareness of environmental protection on a global scale could be said to have its beginnings in April 1970 when the Earth Day Network (now EARTHDAY.ORG) organised the first Earth Day event. It was supported by the United Nations and since then, has been an annual event for more than 193 countries.

Earth Day celebrated with car-free morning
Malaysia has been among the countries to recognise Earth Day which officially falls on April 22. This year, coinciding with the global event was the KL Car-Free Morning Programme. Organised by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), it was held at Dataran Merdeka in the heart of the capital city.

Appropriate partner for environment event
Collaborating with DBKL was smart Malaysia, an appropriate partner for such an environment-focussed event as smart is an EV brand which sells zero-emission vehicles. “In alignment with smart’s Global Sustainability Strategy, our partnership with DBKL represents a significant step forward in promoting collaborative sustainable development for both the environment and society,” said Zhang Qiang, CEO of smart Malaysia.

At the event, smart Malaysia provided plants to the participants of a 7-km run in the city. “This gesture not only underscores smart’s dedication to promoting green initiatives but also fosters a deeper connection between individuals and their environment, promoting overall well-being and vitality,” said Mr. Zhang Qiang.

Preview of #3
On display at the venue was not only the #1 SUV, smart Malaysia’s current model available in three versions, but also the #3 which will join the range later this year. The #3, which made its debut at Auto Shanghai a year ago, is a larger SUV with a coupe-profile. Like the new generation of smart models, the design is the work of Mercedes-Benz Design while the platform and powertrain are from Geely which has a 50% share in smart with the German carmaker.

The #3 on display had a striking camouflage but as it’s already on sale in China and some other markets, there are uncamouflaged pictures available which we show here. As to when the model will be available, smart Malaysia won’t say but MotaAuto.com will let you know the moment we have the information so follow our Facebook and other social media pages.
