Settle summonses or roadtax/driving licence can’t be renewed

The JPJ (Road Transport Department) has 2 million summonses for various offences – some dating back to 2018. To clear this backlog (which is probably clogging the servers), the department is offering an incentive of a 50% discount (to a flat rate of RM150) to settle before June 30, 2025.

This incentive applies only to 3 types of summonses:
♦ Exceeding speed limit or going through a red light (captured by the AwAS cameras)
♦ Notice of investigation (114)
♦ Notices attached to vehicles for traffic offences (eg parking, obstruction)

Additionally, those who settle their summonses within these 6 months will not get any demerit points for the offences.

Announcing this today, Transport Minister Anthony Loke warned that those who still do not settle their outstanding summonses by June 30 will be unable to renew their driving licences or vehicle roadtax.

How do you know if you have a summons?
Since there are summonses going back 6 years, some motorists may have forgotten about them – or might not even be aware they exist. To find out if there are any in your name, you can go to this JPJ website and do a search with your personal details.

The new JPJ app (MyJPJ), launched today, has online payment features so you can use it to make payments or you can also do so at the JPJ website. If you still prefer to use cash, you can go to JPJ branches, kiosks and mobile counters to make payment. Note, however, that you will not be able to get the 50% discount if you use MyEG to make payment.
