Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) was the first company in Malaysia to assemble a fully electric model (the XC40 Recharge) in April 2019, continuing its pioneering tradition which goes back to 1967 when it also produced the first locally-assembled car in the country.
In line with Volvo’s global sustainability ambition to sell between 90% to 100% of electrified cars (including hybrids) by 2030, VCM has been steadily electrifying its range. It has added not only more fully electric models but also hybrid electric models.
The additional models have helped to boost sales in its electrified segment, with a new sales mix record for its fully electric segment which made up 30% of total retail sales (1,953 units), representing an increase of 18% compared to 2023. With the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sales included, 83% of total sales for the year were electrified models, compared to 71% in the year before.
While last year was a much more competitive environment for the industry, we are pleased to continue driving our vision of personal, safe and sustainable mobility with the introduction of the new, fully electric Volvo EX30 that was well received locally – our first batch of fully imported units sold out before local assembly commenced. We now have a focused portfolio of fully electric vehicles for Malaysia with our flagship 7-seater Volvo EX90 coming next,” said Chris Tan, Sales Director of Volvo Car Malaysia.
