Renault gets seventh Car of the Year award with Scenic E-Tech

The Renault Scenic E-Tech was announced as the Europe Car of the Year 2024 (ECOTY) a the Geneva Motor Show which is on in Switzerland this week. The EV beat the other six finalists which were the BMW 5-series, BYD Seal, Kia EV9, Peugeot E-3008/3008, Toyota C-HR, and Volvo EX30.

The 59-member jury from 22 countries gave the Renault a total of 329 votes, 21 votes ahead of the 5-Series and 132 votes ahead of the 3008. The EV9 received 190 votes; EX30 168 votes; BYD Seal 131 votes and the C-HR 127 votes. Notably, of the 7 finalists this year, four were fully electric while the other three were also electrified.

The award this year is the seventh ECOTY title for the French carmaker. Previous models which were winners were the Renault 16 (1966), Renault 9 (1982), Clio (1991), Scenic (1997), Megane (2003), and Clio III (2006).

The Scenic E-Tech, which was unveiled in September 2023, uses the AmpR platform (formerly known as CMF-EV) with nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pacvks supplied by LG. The range is claimed to be from 420 kms to 610 kms, depending on the battery pack which is available with capacities of 60 kWh and 87 kWh.

The SUV, which is about the length of a Toyota Corolla Cross, is priced in the UK from from £37,495 (RM227,300).
