With the latest shipments to Egypt, Proton’s exports for the year have already exceeded the volume for the whole of 2023. By the end of November, 3,652 vehicles had been exported overseas compared to a total figure of 3,636 units in 2023.
The export growth has been helped by the shipments to Egypt, with 480 units of the Saga delivered – setting a new export benchmark for the year. The shipment of the Saga was a remarkable 300% growth compared with the 120 units shipped to the country a month earlier.
Proton expects even stronger sales of the model in North Africa now that it is being assembled locally in Egypt. The model has been converted to lefthand drive for the market, so it can also be distributed to other Middle Eastern markets.
To date, 2,203 units of the Saga have been exported in 2024, making it Proton’s bestselling model overseas and also in its home market.
Up till the end of November, the Malaysian automaker’s cumulative sales volume reached 137,751 units (including export sales) after the 12,194 units delivered were added. The number was a slight decrease compared to October, which was also similar for the market which saw the Total Industry Volume for the month drop by 4.1%.
Market leadership
Sales of the latest upgraded X70 increased by 7.7% compared to the volume in November 2023, bringing the cumulative volume for the SUV to 7,536 units. It has reclaimed the top spot for sales for C-segment SUVs priced below RM130,000.
Three Proton models also ended November leading their respective segment for cumulative sales. The popular X50 continued its commanding lead in B-segment SUV sales with 1,911 units delivered to reach a cumulative volume of 21,033 units after 11 months.
Meanwhile, the flagship X90, retained its position as market leader for D-segment SUVs with a 13.1% growth compared to November 2023, bringing cumulative sales to 3,246 units. The S70 sedan also leads the C-segment sedan sales and after 11 months in the market, 17,512 units have been delivered nationwide.
