Visitors to the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 this week will see many types of vehicles – for today, tomorrow and just concepts to demonstrate new technologies (like the Perodua EMO-1). One unusual vehicle that will be seen going around the site is the PIX Robobus, an autonomous driving shuttle, which visitors can experience.
Developed by PIX Moving, the PIX Robobus offers modular and customizable features and an enhanced urban mobility experience. It transforms transportation into versatile ‘Moving Spaces’, accommodating various services beyond commuting and promotes shared mobility.
Measuring 3810 mm long, 1960 mm wide with internal height of 1780 mm, the Robobus can accommodate 6 persons who enter and exit through sliding doors. It can travel 70 – 100 kms at speeds of up to 30 km/h on a fully charged battery pack which takes 1.5 to 5 hours to be fully recharged (depending on power supply).
Multi-sensor fusion provides the autonomous system with complete ‘awareness’ of the situation around the vehicle which is fully electric. There are also multiple layers of safety redundancy to operational safety.
Its functional design and manufacturing process, driven by AI and leveraging generative design, 3D printing, and real-time manufacturing by robot arms, ensure flexibility and sustainability. The modular concept of the cabin pod allows it to be used for different purposes.
MARii and Autodesk
The demonstration of the Robobus is related to the participation of Autodesk at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. The well-known software corporation (which PIX Moving is affiliated with) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MARii (Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute) in October 2023 which will focus on technology, enhancement, skills development, and industry advancement. Through this collaboration, businesses will have access to skills development opportunities and advanced software training, including computer-aided styling capabilities such as Autodesk Alias and Autodesk VRED.
