It used to be that when you were driving alone, the radio would be your ‘companion’, keeping you entertained along the way. But radio broadcasts are not interactive; you can only listen and not not ‘chat’.
Now, with generative artificial intelligence ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer), a new era of infotainment has begun. The technology, developed by OpenAI, is like Google but even more intelligent and interactive, It is capable of answering a wide range of questions, from simple to complex, and can even engage in a conversation.
Responding in a very simple and natural way via the onboard voice assistant, ChatGPT ‘learns’ from a huge amount of data in order to deliver sophisticated, accurate, and concise responses to its users. Over time, it is refined for the user, responding in a more personalised way that is of a desired length, format, style and level of detail.
For example, if you arrive in a new city, you can ask it to indicate which monuments to visit, to tell you the history of these places, and then, if you wish, the car’s navigation system will even guide you to the landmarks.
ChatGPT can do much more than answer questions. It can even help to keep children occupied by running a quiz for them… no more ‘are we there yet?’.
The auto industry is adopting ChatGPT to enhance the intelligence of its infotainment systems and Peugeot is among the first to do so. The technology is integrated into the i-Cockpit and activated via the voice assistant “OK PEUGEOT“. By using ChatGPT, the voice assistant becomes more interactive, fluid and intuitive.
ChatGPT with the i-Cockpit is offered in all the latest generation Peugeot models equipped with connected navigation. Initially, it will be available only in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the UK and owners need to activate it via the Peugeot Service Store.
