Petron opens 800th service station in Malaysia

Although Petron Malaysia traces its history back to 1893 when a company called Standard Vacuum Oil Company was established, its more recent history began in 2012 when the San Miguel Corporation from the Philippines, through its Petron Corporation subsidiary, acquired the ExxonMobil business in Malaysia. This saw the Petron brand (already present in the Philippines) becoming visible in Malaysia at rebranded Esso and Mobil stations.

Ongoing network expansion
While Petron already had a ready network of stations in 2012, it has not stopped expanding the network to provide fuel and services to motorists around the country. Recently, it opened its 800th service station at the Pedas-Linggi Lay-by (southbound) along the PLUS North-South Expressway.

The station offer Petron’s full range of fuels, including the RON 100 grade which is offered only by the brand in Malaysia. The high-performance petrol is priced at around RM5 per litre.

Full range of fuels
The spacious station is designed to cater to long-distance motorists as well as those in the surrounding areas who are travelling south. It offers the full range of fuels, including the RON100 grade which only Petron offers in Malaysia. All the petrol grades meet Euro4M standards, while the two biodiesel grades conform to Euro5M standards.

As with most other Petron stations, there is also the Treats convenience store fully stocked with all the needs of the travelling motorist, including an ATM for getting cash. Needless to say, tollcards can also be reloaded if the balance is low.

This is the first Petron service station to feature a Quick Treats booth at the forecourt area, allowing customers to grab and go some snacks and beverages from their vehicles.

“The opening of our 800th service station marks a great end to 2024 and an excellent start to 2025 for Petron. This shows our commitment to bringing our products and services to more Malaysians, which cater to their fuel needs and many more. As we transform our stations into a place of convenience, we are excited to diversify our non-fuel business and welcome more partners who share our passion for service and excellence,” said Mohd Nizam Mansor, General Manager of Petron Malaysia.

Aside from growing the business, Petron Malaysia is equally focused on its sustainability commitments. The Petron Pedas-Linggi Lay-by Southbound station incorporates green solutions into its design, such as rainwater harvesting to optimise water consumption, solar-powered lighting to reduce carbon emissions, and the use of eco-friendly building materials to minimise environmental impact.

The petroleum company is also a supporter of local businesses and its ‘Sapot Lokal’ initiative provides shelf space for locally-produced goods at all Treats Marts. Since 2021, the initiative has been providing local entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their products, either through Petron’s network of Treats Marts or through various collaborative efforts.
