Perodua to use MyDigital ID for secure and safe access to services

As a Malaysian automaker, Perodua has worked hard to develop the automotive industry’s ecosystem over the past 30 years. This has helped to advance the industry in many areas, advancing the capabilities of local companies.

Later this year, Perodua will be launching its first fully electric vehicle – developed in-house – but it is not just developing the product alone. It is also working on developing an ecosystem to support the product and its owners in future when they use its EVs.

Perodua has helped to develop and advance the automotive ecosystem in Malaysia over the past 30 years. It has supported the growth of its suppliers and also brought new technologies to the local industry.

Using digitisation for services
Taking new approaches to how EVs will be sold and used, Perodua will make extensive use of digitisation for various services. To support this, the automaker has signed MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) to establish strategic partnerships with TNB, Telekom Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, PETRONAS Dagangan and Gentari. It has also signed a MoU with MALAYSIA Rail Link to use the East Coast Rail Link to transport its vehicles and parts.

National Identity initiative
Recently, Perodua signed a MoU with My Digital ID Sdn Bhd, a company which is responsible for the National Digital Identity initiative. This is the digital equivalent of the physical MyKad which will allow safe access to both government and private digital services.

With a focus on security and privacy, MyDigital ID sets a new benchmark for trust and protection in the rapidly evolving world of mobility. For Perodua, it will provide the company with secure user authentication access for cashless transactions.

New approach to selling EVs?
While cashless transactions are already available to make purchases and payments for services. Perodua is looking ahead for transactions that will be related to its EV. It has already mentioned that it is exploring the idea of leasing or renting the battery packs as a way to keep its EV price as low as possible. This will help the automaker maintain its long-standing aim of offering Malaysians affordable cars.

Other than a general mention of the battery leasing or renting concept by Perodua President & CEO,  Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, no other details have been released. But this MoU with MyDigital ID indicates that the company is looking at some process where owners can easily pay for batteries. It could be an industry game-changer and help accelerate adoption of EVs.

“This collaboration is the first of its kind for the country’s automotive industry as MyDigital ID being the country’s gatekeeper for authentication transactions enables us to further diversify our services to our customers specifically, and to all Malaysians in general,” Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

He said that besides partnering companies such as TNB and Telekom Malaysia, other partnerships such as the one with MyDigital ID will offer a broad range of products and services to future customers.

Safe and secure access
“In addition, we are also supporting the government’s call for a more cashless society for convenience as well as leveraging on the robust cyber security feature provided by MyDigital ID. We want our customers to be as safe as possible when carrying out transactions,” he said.
