Concept cars are models with totally new designs or existing models with new design ideas. Some may be a preview of a new model to be launched in the near future, while others may be design studies to see how various ideas and features look in full size 3-dimensional form.
Some concept cars are shown at motorshows where designers can get feedback from the public on how they feel about the design or new features.
Over the years, Perodua has built many concept cars and some, like this Fun Art Concept, were shown to the public. The Kancil Fun Art Concept, based on the Kancil 2, was largely a styling exercise with the headlights and display panels in the headrests being ‘futuristic ideas’.
What caught public attention was the ‘splintered’ exterior scheme which today is used as camouflage for prototypes. The dominant blue colour was also used inside the car.
The Kancil Fun Art Concept was built in 2003, the same year the Malaysian automaker’s first car had passed the 500,000-unit mark. It was displayed at the 2003 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show.
