Pearly Tan can smash faster than a F1 car!

Malaysia’s National Women’s Doubles player, Pearly Tan, has set a world record for a smash hit at an incredible speed of 438 km/h. This makes her the first female to be recorded as title holder in the category in the Guinness World Records.

Pearly’s record smash hit was actually achieved on April 14, 2023 at a gymnasium at the Yonex Factory in Japan. However,  it was only recently verified by official judges from the Guinness World Records organisation based on the speed measurement results from that day.

Juan-Pablo Montoya McLaren MP4/20 (2005)
Juan-Pablo Montoya holds the world record for reaching the fastest speed in a F1 car. He did it with the McLaren MP4/20 at the 2005 Italian Grand Prix.

Fastest F1 car does 373 km/h
The speed she achieved was even faster than the fastest speed achieved and recorded by the Guinness World Records which remains at 372.6 km/h. This was set by Juan Pablo Montoya in a McLaren-Mercedes MP4/20 at Monza in the 2005 Italian Grand Prix. In 2023, F1 cars can reach top speeds of 350 to 370 km/h.

You certainly would not want that shuttlecock hitting you!

On the same day that Pearly set her record, India’s Satwiksairaj Rankiredd also set a record speed  for the fastest male badminton hit at 565 km/h. This surpassed the previous title of 493 km/h by 72 km/h. His achievement is now also listed in the Guinness World Records.
