Over 270,000 creations with CUPRA DarkRebel Hyper Configurator

Have you ever seen a new concept car and thought that if you were the designer, you would have done it a bit differently? CUPRA, the high-performance brand of Spanish carmaker SEAT, empowers you to do that to its DarkRebel concept.

Presented to the world in April this year and the first showcar to debut through Metahype, CUPRA’s space in the metaverse, the DarkRebel is a virtual sportscar that could be the basis of a future model.

Hyper Configurator
When CUPRA introduced the concept car, it also invited the public to be involved in its design evolution by using a Hyper Configurator. This enables the CUPRA Tribe to create their own versions of the showcar – without the limitations of physical feasibility.

In the Hyper Configurator, users can interact in different virtual environments and experiment to create colours, materials and finishes. Depending on the degree of exponentiality the user chooses, ranging from realism to imagination, the Hyper Configurator will dynamically alter some of the car’s attributes and surroundings, such as colours, graphics, and effects.

Over 270,000 creations
CUPRA’s designers will look at all the creations – more than 270,000 have been submitted – and might be influenced by what they see enough to incorporate the ideas in the physical version in future.

Users from two countries that sent the most configurations have been Spain and Germany, with Mexico and Turkey also in the top ten.

With 74% of users using mobile devices – a clear indication that the DarkRebel will be a car designed by and for the next generation.

This showcar has been created for the next generation, designed by a Tribe, not an individual; it’s a rebel with a purpose, showing that electric cars can be sexy, emotional, and shocking,” said Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA.

While the period for submissions which will be viewed by designers has ended, the Hyper Configurator will remain open for the CUPRA Tribe to continue to create a uniquely personalised CUPRA DarkRebel of their own.

The DarkRebel
The DarkRebel brings CUPRA’s DNA to the maximum without any boundaries. It is defined by the  sharp lines and the athletic proportions of a sportscar combined with a shooting brake architecture.

The virtual concept car has a sharp and radical front end. The arrow shape of the long bonnet provides the maximum feeling of speed, while the cabin is pushed to the rear to create attractive proportions.

The triangular light signature, the brand’s icon, comes with a new approach that emerges from the DarkRebel’s body. Along the central spine which connects the front and the rear is the core of the all-electric sportscar’s skeleton.
