As the Japan Mobility Show (renamed from the Tokyo Motor Show) comes closer, Nissan has revealed the third concept vehicle it will display and this is a large MPV or minivan.
Known as the Nissan Hyper Tourer, the third in its series of advanced EV concepts focuses on nurturing and reinforcing the bond between people as they journey together. It is designed to bring a group of people – friends or associates – on a road trip or business outing.
Autonomous capability
The Hyper Tourer employs various advanced technologies, including autonomous driving. The high-capacity battery pack not only powers the vehicle but with V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) functionality, it can also supply electricity to homes, stores, and offices. This makes it like a mobile ‘powerbank’ which could be used in remote areas.
The exterior design is composed of smooth body panels and sharp character lines that demonstrate traditional Japanese beauty, and its imposing appearance harmonises with the surrounding landscape.
The sides flow diagonally from the front to the rear fender for higher aerodynamic performance and the impression of the smooth drive resulting from the combination of EV and autonomous drive. The white waistline serves as a headlight and signature lamp, while the kumiko-patterned wheels and the soft, straight body line create a premium feel beyond what would be expected of this class of vehicles.
Nissan EV Technology Vision
The Hyper Tourer combines the essence of omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) to provide comfort within. The spacious interior is made possible with Nissan EV Technology Vision, which consolidates compact components and high-energy density all-solid-state batteries to create innovative car packaging. The result is an ultra-low centre of gravity, which when combined with the vehicle’s advanced e-4ORCE all-wheel control system produces smooth and flat acceleration and deceleration.
The overhead console and lighting feature traditional Japanese kumiko and koushi patterns that create a sense of luxury, while the flat LED panel in the floor displays imagery of a riverbed and the sky, helping create a relaxing space where digital and nature are fused.
With fully autonomous driving capability, the driver can safely interact with travel companions. The front seats can swivel completely around to face the rear, enabling face-to-face discussions. Rear-seat passengers can use a wearable display to view and operate the navigation and audio on the front display, creating a sense of unity among all occupants.
There’s also an innovative AI system can monitor biometric signs— including brainwaves, heart rate, breathing and perspiration—and automatically select appropriate music and adjust the lighting to fit the mood.
With the Hyper Tourer concept, Nissan re-envisions the road trip by combining the comfort of a luxurious living room with the convenience of a passenger van.
