Zeekr, an EV brand in the Geely Holding Group which has been in existence for 3 years, has brought battery charging time down to 10.5 minutes. This is the world’s shortest time for a 10% to 80% recharge, made possible by upgraded EV batteries that support 5.5C ultra-fast charging.
The new charging speed record was achieved with the brand’s new 007 sedan connected with Zeekr V3 ultra-fast charging point.
Quicker than what can be achieved by existing nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries, the battery uses a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry with optimized materials and upgraded technology. This was developed by Zeekr’s in-house e-powertrain R&D team.
With an enhanced battery management system, the vehicle’s charging process remains stable and fast, even in harsh environmental conditions. Temperature extremes, especially cold, have an impact on charging time. However, recharging from 10% to 80% is said to be possible within just 30 minutes with the new battery at temperatures as low as -10 degrees C.
To bring this convenience to customers in China, Zeekr has opened over 500 ultra-fast charging stations which will have over 2,700 charging points. All can support 800V charging for optimum performance and minimum charging times.
Zeekr plans to expand the network to 1,000 ultra-fast charging stations in 2024 and aims to over 10,000 ultra-fast charging points in 2026.
