The Kardian is a compact urban B-segment model which is the first of 8 new models that Renault will launch between now and 2027. These models are an important part of the French carmaker’s International Game Plan 2027 which aims to transform the Renault brand worldwide.
Besides having Renault’s DNA in its design, the Kardian uses a new modular Renault platform (updated CMF-B platform) that is highly versatile and will enable the development of a diverse range of models for a number of non-European markets.
The initial Kardian models will have a 1-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine with an output of 125 ps/220 Nm and Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic transmission. Electrified powertrains may not be included for the SUV as it is aimed at markets that are likely to have a slower pace of electrification.
The first appearance of the Kardian will be in South America where production will commence in Brazil in mid-2024. The second location for the new model will be in Morocco in the same year. It will eventually be produced at many of Renault’s 13 production sites around the world.
