Michelin Primacy 5 now available in Malaysia, from RM477

The Michelin Primacy 5, successor to the Primacy 4, is now available in Malaysia, with upgraded specifications and performance for passenger cars and crossovers of all types. Available in 25 dimensions from 16 to 19 inches, the recommended retail pricing for the tyre ranges from RM477 to RM1,026.

Introducing the new Primacy 5, Prichapakorn Dangrojana, Managing Director of Michelin Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei said: “The new Michelin Primacy 5 was developed to meet the evolving demands of modern vehicles, while reducing its environmental impact. Modern vehicles, particularly hybrids and electric vehicles, place increased demands on tyres, due to their increased horsepower and higher weight. The tyre’s construction has therefore been optimized to handle these demands – with improvements in wear life and rolling resistance contributing to lower running costs, while the sustained wet grip performance ensures safety throughout the tire’s extended life.”

He added that with Malaysians’ increasing affinity for larger SUVs as well as the rising popularity of electric vehicles, the Primacy 5 is designed to provide customers with the best value for their everyday journeys, delivering enhanced safety and a quieter driving experience.

The new Michelin tyre features a new tread pattern incorporating Gen-3 Michelin Silent Rib technology that significantly reduces vibrations and noise for a smoother, quieter, comfortable , and more relaxed driving experience.

Longer service life
Service life is claimed to be longer, with a claim of 24% more mileage compared to tyres of other premium brands. This is due to a 10% increase in void ratio (compared to its predecessor), along with optimized lateral groove edges, which contributes to the longer lasting wet performance.

With its longevity increased by 18% – which means that the tyre can be used longer until the legal tread depth – owners can use the tyre longer and therefore generate less waste. By design, its environmental footprint has been decreased by 6%. This is in line with the Michelin Group’s “All Sustainable” strategy.

The tyre also has MaxTouch technology which maximizes contact with the road and evenly distributes the forces of acceleration, braking, and cornering. Together, these factors deliver longer tread life without compromising safety, maximising value for motorists.

Safety on wet roads
When new, the Primacy 5 is said to have an 8% shorter braking distance compared to other premium brands. This is achieved with Functional Elastomers 3.0 that are part of Michelin’s EverGrip and EverTread Technologies that optimize water evacuation, providing excellent wet braking performance.

As tyres wear down, grip can reduce. However, the tyremaker claims that the Primacy 5’s braking distance when worn is 13% shorter than tyres of other premium brands worn down to the same level.

Also for EVs
EV owners can also use this tyre and its high-performance tread rubber compound reduces the rolling resistance by 13%. This, in turn, reduces energy consumption enabling the EV to go further on a fully charged battery pack.
