Besides previewing the new MG5 GT and HS, MG Malaysia also showed the Cyberster roadster for the first time in Malaysia today. The concept model of the roadster was to have been unveiled in 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a delay to 2021. Production began in China in 2023 and the Cyberster has been progressively launched in various markets.
The Cyberster uses a fully electric Modular Scalable Platform with dual-motor and single-motor drivetrains producing up 375 kW (510 ps)/725 Nm. It is claimed to be able to go from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and reach almost 510 kms with a fully charged battery.
Designed at MG’s Advanced Studio in London, the Cyberster has the rare feature of scissors doors that open upwards, making for a dramatic appearance and being unique in its class. There are only seats for two, linking this modern roadster with the many MGs of the past.
MG Malaysia has confirmed that it will be available in Malaysia, with a hint that it could be launched before this year ends. The price has not been decided though it should be attractive as the model can be imported and sold duty-free – not just in Langkawi/Labuan but throughout Malaysia until the end of 2025. For reference, the Cyberster is priced at 2.5 million baht in Thailand, which is equivalent to RM314,000 at today’s exchange rates.
