Malaysia Autoshow 2024 records RM1.4 billion in potential sales

Right from the first Malaysia Autoshow, the event was intended to have a similar format as the events in Thailand and Indonesia where exhibitors do sales, besides launching new models (if they had them at the time). This differed from the big global motorshows like Geneva Auto Salon or Tokyo Motor Show where it was more about branding and showing off the latest technologies.

For the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, years of using this format saw the latest edition being the most successful. According to the organisers – the Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) – the exhibitors reported a total of RM1.4 billion of potential sales, with some 2,620 bookings of new vehicles and 13,799 sales leads gathered. Visitors also had a chance to experience many of the new models, and a total of 6,263 test drives and rides were recorded.

The 6-day event, held at the spacious Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) complex, attracted 223,876 visitors, a 17% increase over the 2023 event and the highest ever in its history. Over 200 brands and exhibitors were present and there were no less than 47 product launches. Visitors also had a chance to experience many of the new models, and a total of 6,263 test drives and rides were recorded.

Peugeot Malaysia provided its new Landtrek pick-up truck (assembled at the Stellantis factory in Kedah) for visitors to experience off-road driving on a special course at MAEPS.

The Malaysia Autoshow 2024 also hosted the exchange and signing of 15 MoUs and MoAs among industry players. JAECOO Malaysia, for example, held a signing ceremony confirming the 30 dealers in its nationwide network, while Chery Auto Malaysia signed a MoU with the Technology Depository Agency, a government agency under the Ministry of Finance. This represented the company’s significant commitment to promoting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices within the Malaysian automotive sector.

A notable highlight was the display of xEV models, which accounted for 50% of the vehicles showcased, aligning with the National Automotive Policy (NAP2020) and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP2030) that emphasize greener and more efficient technologies.

Throughout the event, several significant forums and summits took place, including the 50th Commemorative Malaysia-China Automotive Summit, the 13th ASIAN Automotive Environmental Forum, the MyMAP Grand Prix Award 2024, and a Business Forum and Business Matching event. These gatherings attracted international delegates from countries such as Australia, Belgium, England, Indonesia, Japan, China, and Korea, enriching the understanding of the evolving automotive landscape.
