Lotus Cars Malaysia, which represents the British brand (but owned by Geely since 2017) in Malaysia, is now accepting bookings for the Emira i4. The version offered is the First Edition which is priced at RM998,800, inclusive of taxes.
Price only for 2023 models
The price for this final combustion engine-powered Lotus is only for cars made in 2023. The actual price will be RM1,095,000 in Peninsular Malaysia and RM509,000 in Langkawi where cars can be purchased duty-free (but must remain there for most of the time).
The mid-engine Emira is the most powerful Lotus with a 4-cylinder Mercedes-AMG developed powerplant tuned by Lotus to its own specifications. The 2-litre turbocharged engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Enhancements by Lotus
Some of the enhancements done by Lotus include new intake and exhaust systems, plus a bespoke calibration matched to new transmission shift-mapping enable maximum output of up to 360 bhp at 6,600 rpm and 430 Nm of torque at 3,000 – 5,500 rpm. This enables the Emira i4 to go from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 290 km/h, it is claimed.
“As the final Lotus model to be propelled by a petrol engine, the Emira is a future classic. Its high performance, exceptional vehicle dynamics and meticulously tuned lightweight suspension, innovative steering system, aerodynamically designed exterior and driver-focused interior all combine to deliver the true sports car experience that customers expect from a Lotus,” said Jack Zaal, GM of Lotus Cars Malaysia.
Lotus Sports Car Architecture
The Emira’s light, stiff, bonded aluminium Lotus Sports Car Architecture provides an ideal platform for class-setting ride, handling and steering. The race-derived, lightweight, forged aluminium double-wishbone suspension ensures the greatest control of tyre contact throughout suspension travel agility and responsiveness.
The introduction of the 4-cylinder engine allows for a new, lightweight cast aluminium rear sub-frame, reducing the car’s weight by 12 kgs compared to the Emira V6. The sub-frame also houses the new rear suspension. The sub-frame and related chassis components are assembled by Lotus Advanced Structures.
Eibach springs and Bilstein high-pressure dampers are standard and have specific setting to suit the Emira. There are different settings for the Tour and Sport chassis options, with the latter being track-focused with stiffer springs and dampers, together with increased camber and toe angles to maximise grip.
Specially developed tyres
The Emira i4 comes with a choice of specially-developed tyres – 245/35/R20 in front and 295/30/R20 at the rear. The Tour chassis version is fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tyres, which are also available as an option with the Sports chassis. Exclusive to the Sports chassis are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres designed for extreme track use. Only tyres provided by Lotus will ‘LTS’ markings on the sidewall to denote that they are of Lotus-approved specification.
The lightweight braking system has 2-piece, cross-drilled and slotted discs together with 4-piston calipers on the front axle. Customers can choose from 4 colours for the branded calipers at no extra cost.
There are 13 colour options available for the exterior of the Emira i4 while the Nappa leather upholstery comes in 5 colour options, with a choice of yellow, red or ice grey contrast stitching. Satin chrome trim finishers, white interior mood lighting and Lotus-branded sillplates complete the premium look.
Option packs available as standard
For those who want a bit more to personalise their Emira i4 First Edition, there are 4 option packs: Black Pack, Design, Convenience Pack and Lotus Drivers Pack. With the Lotus Drivers Pack, customers have the option of the Tour or Sports suspension.
First deliveries will commence from November this year. Besides the 3-year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty, there is also assured aftersales support from Lotus Cars Malaysia.
