The Saga, Proton’s bestselling model with 40 years of continuous production and over 2 million units produced, is now on sale in Egypt. Unlike some other markets where the model is exported to, the latest Saga is assembled in Egypt.
The model is assembled at a factory of the local distributor Ezz Elarab Group which has been associated with Proton for 20 years.
Production at the assembly plant in Cairo began in November last year after the official inauguration ceremony which was attended by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim.

With the Saga now assembled in Egypt, its pricing can be more attractive and Proton will also have opportunities to access other markets in North Africa and the Middle East to expand the brand’s presence on the global stage.
“Egypt’s strategic positioning, bridging the Middle East and Africa, coupled with its vast population and promising market recovery, presents Proton with an exceptional opportunity for growth,” said Dr. Li Chunrong, Proton’s CEO.
He added that for the Egyptian market, Proton’s core focus will remain the Proton Saga. At the same time, the automaker will explore the possibility of introducing other models such as SUVs and New Energy Vehicles when market conditions are right.
In 2024, Proton’s export volume grew by an impressive 31.1%, and Egypt played a crucial role in this growth. This success has reinforced the company’s commitment to making exports a key pillar of its future strategy.
