Locally assembled Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe now on sale

Porsche has added a second model to its assembly line at Inokom in Kedah. This is the Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe which joins the Cayenne that began assembly in 2022. Malaysia is the only country outside Germany where Porsche has an assembly operation and besides being for sale in the local market, the new Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe will also be exported to neighbouring countries.

“In 2024, we marked another significant achievement with the launch of the first regionally assembled Cayenne for Thailand, reinforcing our commitment to becoming a strong assembly partner to Porsche in this region. Building on this momentum, we are excited to launch a second model, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe, in Malaysia for our customers,” said Christopher Hunter, CEO of Sime Darby Auto Performance.

Unfortunately, although it has an electrified powertrain, it does not enjoy any tax-free incentive as the government is providing that only for fully electric models. Nevertheless, being assembled locally, there are still some other incentives provided which enables Sime Darby Auto Performance to set the price from RM728,000.

The Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe is the latest version which has been thoroughly redesigned and upgraded with a new suspension system. Standard equipment includes HD Matrix LED headlights, 20-inch Cayenne S Design wheels in Vesuvius Grey and a premium BOSE Surround Sound System.

Customers in Malaysia can select from the exterior colour choices of Carrara White Metallic, Chromite Black Metallic and Dolomite Silver Metallic at no additional cost.

Interior
Inside, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe has, for the first time, a GT Sports steering wheel and the Sport Chrono package with Porsche Design clock are included as standard features. There are two choices of smooth-finish leather upholstery in Black or Bordeaux Red with Porsche crests on the front headrests, 4-zone climate control, an interior air quality ioniser, 14-way adjustable comfort seats with memory package and electric roll-up sunblinds for the rear side windows.

A new 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment screen are standard elements of the new Porsche Driver Experience. The transmission selector in the new Cayenne is now positioned to the left of the steering wheel on the dashboard. This makes room on the new centre console for storage compartments and a large air conditioning controller in an elegant black panel design.

Passengers are also treated to a premium occupant experience with Rear Seat Entertainment pre-wiring available as standard. As an option, two rear screens can be easily installed for passengers’ viewing which would be great for kids on long journeys.

Plug-in hybrid powertrain
The plug-in hybrid powertrain has a 3-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine with output of 353 ps, 49 ps more power than the powerplant in the Cayenne E-Hybrid. Together with the new electric motor, the total system output is 519 ps with 750 Nm of torque.

The SUV Coupe has a claimed 0 to 100 km/h of 4.7 seconds and top speed of 263 km/h. Depending on the amount of energy in the 21.8 kWh battery pack, the electric-only range is said to be up to 90 kms. When running only in EV mode, the top speed is limited to 135 km/h.

Recharging the battery pack can be done with an AC outlet and when using 9.6 kW supply, the time from 0% to 100% is claimed to be within 3.25 hours; with higher power up to 11 kW, the time can be reduced to 2.65 hours.

Enhanced comfort
Porsche now equips the Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe with a standard new adaptive air suspension including Porsche Active Suspension Management with 2-chamber, 2-valve technology. This improves the driving experience, vehicle stability and simplifies handling compared to both the standard suspension and the previous model.

At the same time, the adaptive air suspension improves driving precision, performance and reduces body movements in dynamic driving situations, offering a sharper differentiation between Normal, Sport and Sport Plus driving modes. The adaptive air suspension also contributes to increased comfort as there is a wide spectrum of spring rates, ranging from extremely comfortable to high performance, dynamic behaviour.
