Hybrid models are not new to the Mercedes-Benz range in Malaysia and were present as far back as 10 years ago with the E-Class BlueTech Hybrid. Though the carmaker had committed to full electrification, it still has hybrid powertrains which is fortunate as it is now ‘reversing course’ on its electrification plans.
The hybrid powertrains are still available in models like the C 350 e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedan which is now available in Malaysia as a locally-assembled model priced from and estimated RM355,000 (without insurance).
Replacement for the C300 AMG Line
The new C350 e in AMG Line replaces the C300 AMG Line and will be sold alongside the C200 Avantgarde in the C-Class range. Notable features are the DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus.
The PHEV powertrain has a 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine which, together with the electric motor, produces a system output of 313 ps/550 Nm. Power delivery to the rear wheels goes through a 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission.
AC charging only
The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 25.4 kWh which can provide a claimed electric-only range of up to 117 kms. Recharging is only with AC power supply up to a maximum of 11 kW. The battery pack has its own warranty of 6 years/100,000 kms so owners won’t have to worry about a big bill replacing it for that period.
