Johor Premium Outlets to have largest DC EV hub in Southeast Asia

Johor Premium Outlets will soon add 500 EV chargers to the national network which has a target of 10,000 charging points by the end of this year. When fully operational, the charging station at the 14-year old mall will be the largest fast-charging EV hub in Southeast Asia.

It will have DC fast-chargers with outputs from 280 kW to 1 MW, the latter being Southeast Asia’s first publicly accessible 1MW charger. While passenger cars do not yet use 1MW chargers, large electric trucks do and there is a growing number such trucks.

The new charging hub is made possible via a strategic partnership with Yinson Greentech’s chargEV and DC Handal as service providers. GoCar Malaysia and drivEV also have offices on site to electric mobility solutions with hourly and daily EV rentals.

There are already electric trucks such as this one from Volvo operating in Malaysia and a 1MW DC charger is more suitable for their needs.

There are also plans for electrification of Johor Premium Outlets fleet of shuttle buses. The EV Bus Hub will have a connection with Johor Bahru immigration points and other key public transport hubs, making sustainable travel more convenient for both local and international visitors.
