After making its debut last May at the 2024 Malaysia Auto Show, JETOUR went quiet until November when it confirmed its entry into the market in 2025 with two models. Now the company, which is a subsidiary of the Chery Automobile Group, has prepared enough groundwork to announce its plans for this year moving forward.
At a media luncheon today, Kevin Xu, Vice-President of JETOUR International, said that the 6-year old automaker has established a local subsidiary – JETOUR Automobile Malaysia – and chosen this country for its operations centre for righthand drive vehicles. Mr. Xu said that he is also stationed in Malaysia and is responsible for the ASEAN region as well as Australasian markets.
“Malaysia will be our gateway to the ASEAN market, reflecting our confidence in this country’s strategic importance and market potential. Our ultimate vision is clear – to become the Number 1 brand for hybrid off-road vehicles in Malaysia,” he said.
The first model JETOUR will offer is the Dashing SUV and it will be assembled locally at an existing factory, with a launch to take place during the first quarter of this year. Meanwhile, the supporting network is quickly being set up nationwide with more than 10 3S/4S outlets to open before the end of March. By the end of the year, the number should be more than 20 in Selangor, Penang, Ipoh, Seremban, Melaka, Johor, as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
The locations will be strategically chosen to ensure customers have accessibility to JETOUR’s sales and aftersales services. Mr. Xu said that the supply of spare parts is assured and shipments have already arrived and stocks are being built up.
As for the Dashing, this is a premium 5-seater model with the typical SUV form. While it uses a Chery Group engine (Mr. Xu said Chery’s engines are the best in China), the platform was developed by JETOUR for its own models. It is known that there will be two versions of the Dashing, both with 1.5-litre turbocharged engines with 156 ps/230 Nm output and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Of course, JETOUR Malaysia won’t stop at just one model and other models planned (some of which will be assembled locally) are the larger X70 Plus (which may have some other name since another company already has an X70 model) and the more rugged off-road T1 and T2 which have traditional SUV construction (body-on-chassis frame).
Though having the same parent company, JETOUR Malaysia is not connected to Chery Malaysia, unlike JAECOO Malaysia, and operates as an entirely separate and independent business. The connections are only at the highest levels in China. Mr. Xu said that while there is some sharing of technologies, each company carries out its own product development based on its philosophy and objectives.
“At JETOUR, we are more than just a car manufacturer; we are devoted to creating life’s journeys. Every vehicle symbolises adventure, innovation, and an uncompromising drive for excellence, showcasing our dedication to honouring each individual’s unique journey through our cars,” said Mr. Xu.
