Over the past 20 years, Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian ‘Polizia di Stato’ have had a close and successful relationship which has seen five supercar models being used by the Italian Highway Police. A sixth model has been added this month – the Lamborghini Urus Performante which will enter service in 2024.
Life-saving duties
The Super SUV joins the Huracan LP610-4, and will be used for special services including the urgent medical transport of organs and plasma.
The Urus Performante for the police has been specially prepared by the carmaker’s technicians. The livery was designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile and combines the classic blue colour of the Italian State Police and white, with tricolour bands on the sills and seatbelts. The police logos have been applied to the doors in reflective film, while a light bar with 360° blue LED lights is installed on the roof, together with a 2-tone electric siren.
Prepared for police work
Inside the cabin are various elements required for the kind of work the police do: an armoured weapon box; a flip-down message display; and a special compartment in the boot area for stowing service equipment.
Most importantly, a portable fridge for the transportation of organs is fitted, including a display and data logger for the continuous monitoring of the internal temperature. There is also a defibrillator for first aid response.
306 km/h top speed
The Urus Performante is equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine delivering 666 ps/850 Nm so it can take off and pass 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. When every second counts in delivering the vital organs to a patient in another city, the sportscar can reach up to 306 km/h.
“It is with great pleasure that we are continuing our 20-year cooperation with the Italian State Police,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman & CEO of Automobili Lamborghini at the handover ceremony recently. “Knowing that our cars are used for public duties and, above all, for crucial operations to save human lives, can only make me and the whole company proud. These initiatives, which bring us great satisfaction, demonstrate our innate close ties with Italy.”
