This weekend sees a huge gathering of Nissan GT-Rs in Penang for the inaugural GT-R Festival which is being held as a prelude to the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur early next month.
The first activity on the program for the 3-day event was a dinner at the Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City in Bandar Selat, Butterworth. At the event yesterday, they welcomed Hiroshi Tamura, Nissan’s Brand Ambassador who is regarded as the ‘father of the modern GT-R’.
The highlight of the festival was a convoy drive after breakfast today to the SPICE Convention Centre along Jalan Tun Dr. Awang on the island. The convoy was escorted across the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah bridge (also referred to as the Penang Bridge Second Link). After that, the owners spent time on Penang island before regrouping to return to the hotel for another exclusive meeting with Mr. Tamura.
“This is the second year of organizing Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur and it’s going to be bigger and more exciting. While the GT-R Festival starts this year as a promotional event leading up the show, the support it has garnered from owners and fans alike proves that it has all the potential of becoming a standalone program which we intend to grow even further moving forward,” said Element X Strategies Director and CEO, Jason Yap.
“I would like to take this opportunity to also thank the Penang State Government for its hospitality and support of the GT-R Festival. We are deeply honoured to host the inaugural event here.”
