While the Chinese brands dominate the news with new models, especially electrified vehicles, almost every month, it would seem that the Japanese and Korean carmakers have become dormant. Perhaps they’re ‘lying low’ for now as they work on the next generation of products with more advanced technologies.
Sporty dream car
At Hyundai Motor, they’re certainly very much in the game and with the INSTEROID design concept, the automaker shows how its INSTER compact EV can be transformed into a sporty ‘dream car’. With the INSTEROID, the designers make a bolder statement to deepen the emotional connection with the Hyundai brand.
The name combines ‘INSTER’ and ‘STEROID’, reflecting the funky, youthful and muscular nature of this showcar adapted from the production INSTER that was launched in June 2024.
‘Glitch’ in automotive matrix
As a one-of-a-kind concept car, the INSTEROID showcases the innovative vision of Hyundai Motor’s design team. It is described as ‘a thrilling glitch’ in the automotive matrix, merging the boundary-pushing aesthetics of videogames with real-world engineering to create a vehicle that feels like it’s morphed straight out of a digital speedway.
Equipped with fun details, it offers plenty to discover; every element – from the control buttons to the instrument cluster, the rear spoiler to the brakes and signature Pixel LEDs – reflects the INSTEROID’s character.
Racing game-inspired styling
The teaser images and video show how the INSTEROID elevates the production model’s design with racing game-inspired styling, featuring wheelarch air vents, 21-inch wheels, and a prominent rear spoiler and diffuser add to its look.
