Although Goodyear Malaysia has ended manufacturing operations at its factory in Selangor since the end of June 2024, it is still active in the local community (and Goodyear tyres are still on sale). Having been part of the community for many decades, it has given support in various ways and St. John Ambulans Malaysia is one of the recipients of that support.
Nearly 2 decades of support
For nearly two decades, Goodyear Malaysia has provided tyres to the organisation, ensuring that their fleet of emergency vehicles will be able to operate safely. This is particularly important considering that the vehicles are on call 24/7 and will have to fetch those in need of urgent medical treatment and rush them to hospital.
Additionally, St. John Ambulans Malaysia is also the primary ambulance provider for Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), responding to emergencies to provide speedy transport of victims to hospitals in the event of an aviation accident or other incidents.
Over RM25,000 of tyres
Recently, Goodyear Malaysia donated 60 Goodyear Cargo Marathon 2 tyres to the organisation, with a total value of over RM25,000. “Our latest donation is more than just a contribution; it’s a reaffirmation of our commitment to ensuring these vehicles operate reliably, no matter the road conditions. When we equip their ambulances with our advanced tyres, we are directly enhancing the safety and efficiency of their operations, helping them reach those in need without delay,” said Ashwin Rajgopal, Managing Director of Goodyear Malaysia.
The tyres are ideally suited for the ambulances with their advanced polymer tread compound ensuring good wet braking performance (very important on Malaysian roads). Their optimised tread pattern also distributes pressure evenly around the tyre and enhances mileage, allowing for use over a long period.
Commenting on the long-term collaboration with the organisation, Mr. Rajgopal said: “St. John Ambulans Malaysia is a cornerstone of emergency medical services in Malaysia, and Goodyear is honoured to support their life-saving work. This reflects Goodyear’s broader mission to give back to the community by empowering those who safeguard public health and safety.”
