GAC GS3 EMZOOM gets ASEAN NCAP’s highest rating

The GAC GS3 EMZOOM, marketed by WTC Automotif (WTCA) in Malaysia, was tested by ASEAN NCAP (the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries) and awarded the maximum rating of 5 stars.

Although not the first Chinese brand assessed by ASEAN NCAP since it began such activity 12 years ago, it is the first model from GAC Motor tested by the organisation.

Tougher 2021 – 2025 protocols
Tested under the tougher 2021 – 2025 assessment protocol, the crossover SUV had a combined score of 88.39 points composed of points in the following categories: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) – 36.60 points; Child Occupant Protection (COP) – 16.43 points; Safety Assist (SA) – 17.86 points; and Motorcyclist Safety (MS) – 17.50 points. Crash-test conducted at CAERI
The crash test was carried out at the state-owned China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI), an affiliate of ASEAN NCAP which provides facilities for such testing. The data collected was analysed by ASEAN NCAP which also assesses many other areas of the vehicle.

Comprehensive list of standard safety features
Besides the usual ABS and electronic stability control, ASEAN NCAP notes that the GS3 EMZOOM comes with a comprehensive list of standard safety equipment and systems such as 6 SRS airbags, Seatbelt Reminder System (front seats; optional for rear seats), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Visualization (BSV), Auto High Beam, and Pedestrian Protection technology.

The crash test creates violent forces on humans inside the cabin and thanks to proper safety equipment such as the ISOFIX mounting for childseats and window airbags, children in the rear will be well protected in the EMZOOM, as ASEAN NCAP’s results showed,

The GS3 EMZOOM also has other advanced safety assist technologies as standard such as comprising AEB for Motorcycle, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Keep Assist.

“True to its commitment to safety, the GAC GS3 EMZOOM has a well-deserved safety performance from both its passive and active safety features offered in the model,” ASEAN NCAP said in its statement.

It also highlighted the BSV and AEB for Motorcycle which will assist drivers in avoiding collisions with motorcycles either on the sides or front part of the vehicle.
