First view of the new Kia K4

A new generation of the Kia K4, which has been sold in some markets since 2014, will be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show on March 27, 2024.

Kia has not revealed any technical details but it seems unlikely that the new model will have a fully electric powertrain as the ‘K’ models do not have battery electric variants.

The compact sedan model is expected to take over from the Forte/Cerato/Ceed. Although the ‘K4’ designation originated in China, production ceased after 2020. Of the original ‘K’ models, only the K3 and K5 remain in the range in China as Kia focusses on EV models.

The new K4 is unlikely to come to the Malaysian market as Kia’s plans which were outlined two years ago show that the models planned up to 2026 are the Carnival, Sorento, Sportage and Niro. These will have electrified powertrains, with the Niro also having a fully electric powertrain. Some models will be assembled locally and Kia will also export them to regional markets. The EV6 is also available in the range.
