Lotus has given the world a look at its first 4-door hyper-GT, the Emeya, at a reveal event in New York City. The global premiere of the car, to go on sale in 2024, at Studio Emeya was part of a 3-day immersive brand experience showcasing the past, present and future of the British sportscar brand owned by the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group since June 2017.
To be a flagship model
The name ‘Emeya’ was chosen to embody the ambition and commitment which Lotus has for this new model. It joins as a flagship model in Lotus’ line-up as part of the company’s vision to become a global performance brand by 2028.
While full information on the Emeya will only be released in the fourth quarter of 2023, we are now given an overview of the car which, in the words of Lotus Group CEO, Feng Qingfeng, is ‘’how a luxury electric vehicle should look and handle – making it truly for the driver’.
“Bringing together our rich heritage with intelligent performance and the latest cutting-edge technologies, we’re pushing the boundaries,” he said. “Emeya is setting a new benchmark for how a Lotus drives and feels by combining the company’s 75-year expertise in engineering and design, with the latest advanced innovations – bringing drivers an electric car that is exciting to drive and performs exceptionally.”
Advanced, active aerodynamic features
This includes advanced and active aerodynamic features such as the pioneering active front grille, rear diffuser and rear spoiler. All this, combined with a low centre of gravity that Lotus calls ‘hyperstance’, enhances stability when driving, and sets a new standard in the GT segment for ride and handling excellence.
The electronically-controlled air suspension system of the Emeya uses advanced onboard sensors that ‘feel’ the road 1,000 times a second, and adjustments are constantly made to provide the smoothest ride as surface conditions change.
0 – 100 km/h in under 2.8 seconds
The top specification version features Lotus’ high-power dual motor set-up that is said to take the hyper GT to over 250 km/h after accelerating from standstill to 100 km/h in under 2.8 seconds. This would make it one of the fastest electric GTs in the world.
The Emeya will have market-leading charging capabilities and can be recharged with a DC supply of up to 350 kW. With a fast-charging point having this capability, 150 kms of range can be added in a time of approximately 5 minutes, while charging up to 80% capacity can be done within 18 minutes.
The carmaker has worked with KEF to develop a truly immersive audio system which it promises will ‘elevate music listening to new levels’. It features KEF’s award-winning Uni-Q speaker design and Uni-Core space-saving subwoofer enclosure, as well as Dolby Atmos-enabled 3D surround sound (first seen in a Lotus on the Eletre).
Sustainable materials
Like other carmakers, Lotus pays attention to sustainability to reduce its carbon footprint. The advanced materials for the Emeya are sustainably-sourced and consciously designed This includes a new luxury thread made from repurposed fibres from the fashion industry – as well as PVD aluminium, Alcantara, Nappa leather, and Ultrafabrics PU.
