The Federal Highway in the early 1990s, looking towards Shah Alam, Selangor. On the right side, the open land is the Glenmarie area just cleared. Proton was starting to build its engine casting plant there. At the same time, the Malaysian carmaker also built its Parts Centre nearby. Auto Bavaria would also set up its BMW flagship showroom along the road on the right side and remain there for some two decades.
The toll plaza was being constructed (demolished in March 2018) and the jam is probably because traffic flow was congested by the work going on. However, even with the toll plaza removed, the congestion at that stretch is still present today.
