Everrati futureproofs Mercedes-Benz SL ‘Pagoda’

The Mercedes-Benz SL W113 – nicknamed ‘Pagoda’ because of its slightly concaved roof – is among the iconic models of the German carmaker, Produced between 1963 and 1971, celebrities such as John Lennon, Juan Manuel Fangio, King Hussein, Tina Turner, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, John Travolta and Charlton Heston, to name just a few, owned one of the 48,912 cars that were sold.

Futureproofing with electric powertrain
It is one of the most timelessly elegant, stylish, and collectible cars of all time, deserving a place in the automotive hall of fame. While there are still many units kept in fine condition, Everrati Automotive is also ‘futureproofing’ the car through the integration of cutting-edge electric powertrains.

In the process, Everrati is setting new standards for classic electrified vehicles with understated, sustainable luxury – and zero emissions.

With the SL ‘Pagoda’, Everrati has respectfully redefined the masterpiece. It is hand-built and meticulously restored to concours standards by industry-leading Mercedes-Benz specialists and re-powered with a cutting-edge automaker-grade electric powertrain. This powertrain has been completely designed, developed, and manufactured in-house by Everrati.

Maintaining true spirit of original
Like all Everrati projects, EV technology is integrated sympathetically, using CAD to maximise the installation, in a manner totally in keeping with the true spirit of the original and its manufacturer. The transformation to electric power involves the optimisation of overall weight and weight distribution – keeping these important metrics as close to the donor SL ‘Pagoda’ as much as possible.

At the same time, Everrati engineers have taken the opportunity to enhance chassis response, performance and safety, reinvigorating the open top, 2-seater luxury grand tourer. Structural integrity is also retained, and the conversion is completely reversable, maintaining value and options into the future.

Two powertrain options
For the redefined SL ‘Pagoda’, two bespoke versions of Everrati’s proprietary OEM-grade electric powertrain are available, enabling customers to tailor their vehicle to specific use cases. As standard, the electrified SL ‘Pagoda’ comes with a 54.4 kWh battery, enabling 258 kms of range and 0 – 60 mph (96 km/h) in under 8 seconds.

Prioritising even greater performance and distance, a ‘Touring’ version is also available, equipped with a larger 68 kWh battery that extends the range to over 320 kms and takes another second off the acceleration time. Recharging of the battery can be done at stations with DC and AC power supply.

The motor output of both versions is the equivalent of 300 bhp, significantly higher than the 168 bhp that the original car with the M130 2.8-litre petrol engine produced. Regenerative braking allows for ‘one-pedal’ driving when the opportunity arises.
