Electric vehicles are still new to Malaysians, having appeared on roads only over the past 2+ years. The numbers have now grown to thousands and while the early adopters had to put up with limited charging stations and other issues related to new technologies, there are now more EV owners who expect their motoring experience to be as convenient as owning a car with a combustion engine.
The process at charging stations is one area where Charging Point Operators (CPOs) have been working on making things as easy and as seamless as possible. EV Connection (EVC), one of these CPOs, has now enhanced their JomCharge app with AutoCharge to make it easier for those using the app.
Some Chery Omoda E5 owners were able to use the AutoCharge feature earlier, but in order to be registered, it required the user to visit the EVC office personally. Now, a user can activate the feature via the app and use at any of the 200+ AutoCharge-supported charging points.
Easier and seamless process
AutoCharge, as the name suggests, is a process whereby the EV is connected to the charging point, and the charger automatically recognizes the vehicle ID, subsequently triggering the charging. This is more convenient than having to locate the correct charging app from the many apps and trying to scan a QR code before being able to charge the vehicle.
Chery and GAC AION EVs for now
EVC says that this feature is available only to Chery and GAC AION EVs but the company is actively pursuing partnerships with other companies to make it possible for EVs from more brands to benefit from AutoCharge.
With AutoCharge, there is no need to involve a mobilephone in the whole process. Payment will be automatically billed to the payment card set on the JomCharge app after charging is completed.
“We have received a lot of feedback from our users indicating the need for a more automated and simple EV charging method, especially as the amount of EV charging apps have mushroomed recently. Ensuring a seamless User Experience is a core ethos of the JomCharge team, and I am proud that we have managed to introduce this new feature,” said EVC technical director, Dr. Che Hang Seng.
