Drifting legend Ken Block died in a snowmobile accident in January this year, shocking fans and the motorsport world. Sadly, we thought that there would be no more of his exciting videos to watch (though what he has done before is still just as breathtaking to watch).
But just 2 months before his fatal snowmobile accident, the 55-year old driver had done one last episode which his family completed and has released in his memory.
Called ‘Electrikhana 2’, the episode was filmed with the Audi S1 Hoonitron in November 2022 in Mexico City as a continuation of the series which started with Block sliding and smoking the Audi through the streets of Las Vegas.
In Mexico City, there were fascinating locations to use – from the modern airport to a spiral-shaped parking garage. Together with the engineers from Audi Sport, Block came up with a very special gimmick for Electrikhana 2 – in addition to a new livery – that only an electric vehicle can offer. In one scene, the front and rear axles pull in opposite directions, causing the S1 Hoonitron to disappear into a large white cloud when stationary.
The all-electric prototype car was developed by Audi Sport as a one-off exclusively for Block. It has 2 electric motors, all-wheel drive, a total output of 500 kW, a carbonfibre chassis and fully meets FIA safety standards. Over the course of 222, the S1 Hoonitron was further developed with input from Block, bringing its weight down, improving drivability and simulating gear changes.
