Interest in EVs is growing and with it are many new models to choose from – all at duty-free prices, thanks to the government incentive to promote adoption of these zero-emission vehicles. The latest one to be launched in the market is the BYD Seal, just a week ago. Priced from RM179,800, the new model had over 1,300 customers waiting within 4 days.
The introductory offer
Part of the reason for the surge in orders could also have been the introductory offer of a free home charger as well as charging credits (for Gentari or ChargEV stations) worth RM800. This offer (terms and conditions apply) was supposed to be for the first 800 customers but has been extended until March 3, 2024.
The Seal, which is attracting attention in other markets as well, is positioned above the ATTO3 and Dolphin. Two versions are available: Premium RWD 230 kW/360 Nm – RM179,800 and Performance AWD 390 kW/670Nm – RM199,800.
BYD makes its own batteries which are called Blade batteries and both versions have a capacity of 82.56 kWh. The range is claimed to be up to 650 kms (580 kms for Performance version).
Fast-charging from DC supply up to 150 kW can recharge from 30% to 80% in 32 minutes. AC charging from 0% takes 15.2 hours to reach 100%.
Peace of mind ownership
The standard warranty for the Seal is 6 years or maximum of 150,000 kms for the vehicle, with 8 years (or maximum of 160,000 kms) for the battery pack and 8 years (or maximum of 150,000 kms) for the drive unit. This should give peace of mind to those who may be concerned about the durability of EVs or cars from China, as well as the battery pack.
Customers also have the option of Standard and Plus Service packages, available for durations of 3 years, 6 years, and 8 years. These service plans can help protect against potential future price increases, allowing for significant cost savings over the long term.
