By now, you would have heard of ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer), and perhaps even started to use it. The year-old chatbot can interact with humans, generate content and even do coding. Its Artificial Intelligence (AI) enables these capabilities, though it has also generated a degree of controversy due to the possibility that its responses can also be inaccurate or incorrect.
Now ChatGPT has also arrived in the automotive world with DS Automobiles being the first carmaker (in Europe) to offer the generative AI feature in its vehicles. While there are already intelligent on-board assistants like Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant which can interact with the occupants in the car, ChatGPT will complement the usual voice recognition on all DS Automobiles models equipped with DS IRIS SYSTEM.
The DS IRIS SYSTEM, an intuitive and reactive voice recognition system, has its capabilities enhanced with the integration of ChatGPT. DS Automobiles says users will enjoy a ‘’evolutionary conversational experience’ and have access to useful information and the ability to complete a multitude of tasks. In particular, the integration of this new feature adds a new dimension by becoming a digital assistant devoted to the travel experience.
ChatGPT technology uses language models to understand and generate a natural and fluid interaction. By learning from huge amounts of data, ChatGPT can answer a wide variety of questions and provide relevant information. It promises to offer a whole new dimension for interaction between the driver and the vehicle.
Some examples given are asking the system to list the most beautiful paintings at an art museum, or creating a quiz for the children in the car. The possibilities are endless and should make each journey more fun, distracting the kids from asking the dreaded ‘are we there yet?’ question.
ChatGPT is offered at no charge to the first 20,000 registered users with DS IRIS SYSTEM on their DS 3, DS 4, DS 7, or DS 9, during a 6-month pilot phase (until February 29, 2024) of Stellantis’ ‘SoundHound AI powered by ChatGPT’. It is available in France, Germany, the UK, Spain and Italy, and can be remotely accessed through the DS Services Store.
