Cycle & Carriage (C&C) has been appointed by Stellantis Malaysia as a dealer for the various brands in the Stellantis Group. There are currently 16 and the first one will be Peugeot. Not all the brands in the group will be available in the Malaysian market as Stellantis Malaysia will focus on those that are suited to the market and region.
The French brand is not actually new to C&C as it held the franchise in Malaysia between 2002 and 2007, before it was taken over by NAZA Group subsidiary, Nasim Sdn. Bhd., in 2008.
Handling multiple brands is not new to C&C either. In the 1990s, it had been a dealer for a number of brands (not necessarily within the same group) through its C&C (Malaysia) subsidiary.
Stellantis takes this approach in some other markets as it realises that the potential volumes for some of the brands is not great and would be a challenge for a dealer if he could sell only one brand.
Starting off with three 3S centres
Cycle & Carriage, better known for its association with Mercedes-Benz, has an existing network of outlets and 3 of these – located in Cheras and Batu Caves in the Klang Valley and Georgetown in Penang – will become Peugeot 3S centres.
The 125-year old company has long experience in the auto industry and will provide Peugeot customers with sales and aftersales services. The new outlets will be operational in coming months with further expansion into the south of Peninsular Malaysia during 2025.
“This new chapter with Stellantis Malaysia is truly a testament of Cycle & Carriage’s commitment towards providing our customers exceptional journeys and adds to our rich automotive heritage in Malaysia. With a history of representing multiple automotive brands, we are excited to once again showcase further growth as a brand and look forward to serving Malaysians better in the near future with this expansion,” said Thomas Tok, CEO of Cycle & Carriage.
“We are excited to embark on a new chapter with Stellantis Malaysia, to offer customers an expanded product line-up, coupled with Cycle & Carriage’s expertise in automotive backed by our 125-year history. We truly believe that existing and future customers will greatly benefit from this collaboration, offering easy access to a wider range of quality products based on their needs and quality services even after point of purchase,” Mr. Tok added.
Collaborating with C&C is part of Stellantis Malaysia’s dealer expansion efforts. This strategic expansion not only aims to strengthen the brand’s foothold in the country but also to identify key locations to be able to provide accessible and top-quality service to its customers nationwide in their communities.
“Today marks a significant milestone for Stellantis Malaysia, and we are thrilled to welcome our new dealer partner to our growing network. This is a testament to our commitment to delivering exceptional service and expanding our reach to better serve our valued customers. Cycle & Carriage’s reputation for excellence aligns perfectly with our values and we look forward to setting the new standards in the industry to provide unparalleled customer experience,” said Jamie Morais, Managing Director of Stellantis Malaysia.
The Peugeot range
The current Peugeot range in Malaysia consists of the 408 sedan and three SUVs – 2008, 3008 and 5008 – as well as the Landtrek pick-up truck. All of them are assembled at the Stellantis assembly plant in Kedah.
As for future brands for this market, besides Peugeot, Stellantis Malaysia is focussing on Citroen, Jeep and the Leapmotor EV brand from China. Selected models of these brands will be assembled at its plant for the Malaysian market as well as for export to neighbouring countries.
No time-frame has been announced for the introduction of the other brands although potential models have been on display at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 in May.
