The countdown to the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur has started with the official launch of the event today. This will be the second year of the event which is a downsized official version of the highly popular Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023.
The Tokyo Auto Salon was originally a motorshow for innovative and creative Japanese cars – referred to as JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) cars by enthusiasts. In its initial years, it was popular as an alternative motorshow to the Tokyo Motor Show as it featured a variety of cars that were customised and modified, rather than brand new or to-be-launched models.
However, over the past decade, the Tokyo Auto Salon has seen greater participation by Japanese automakers who see its value to promote their sportier products. In fact, some automakers have also previewed new models at the event. Additionally, aftermarket accessories and performance products are also showcased.
Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur is currently the only similar show that is held outside Japan under license and modelled directly after the event. It is hosted in Malaysia by Element X Strategies as the Sole Official Licensee and MUSE Group Asia as the Co-Organizer, in collaboration with San Ei Corporation as the owner of the Tokyo Auto Salon intellectual property, and the Tokyo Auto Salon Federation.
To be held again at MITEC (Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre) from November 8 – 10, the Tokyo Auto Salon (TASKL 2024) promises to be an even bigger with a significant growth in floor space. More than 300 top-tier cars will be on display, with at least 15 brought over from Japan.
TASKL 2024 will also see the return of iconic tuner Top Secret’s Smoky Nagata, and will also feature exhibits from famous names such as Veilside, Trust/GReddy, Option, Tomica and San Ei Corporation.
There will be lots of activities, including an auto styling competition to be judged by some of Japan’s top tuners; gathering by car clubs; auto trading; drifting demonstration; racing simulator challenge; audio competition; pop & bang competition, and live performances over the 3 days.
At the event, visitors will see the introduction of TASKL 2024 ambassadors who will be joined by brand ambassadors and race queens from Japan. One of the Malaysian brand ambassadors will stand a chance of representing Malaysia at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan.
Official merchandise on sale this year will offer fans an extremely diverse and exciting range of apparel and accessories that include-neck t-shirts, retro collared t-shirts and round neck t-shirts.
These will depict unique graphics of some of the more iconic JDM models such as the R33, R34 and R35 Nissan GT-Rs, Honda Civic FK8 and FL5 Type R, Mitsubishi Evo X, and Toyota AE86, Toyota Supra, etc. Those who purchase TASKL 2024 official merchandises also stand to gain a 5% discount if they buy online via the website.
There is also a limited and special edition 1/64 diecast Chameleon Nissan GT-R R33 (NISMO 400R) which fans can secure online with the purchase of any ticket, or at the show (while stocks are available).
And for all visitors who purchase a ticket at the venue or online, there is a chance to also win one full-sized unregistered MUGEN version of the Honda Civic FK8R Type R. [Click here to know more]
“With 91,000 recorded visitors at the inaugural Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur in 2023, we have to step up our game this year. The expectation from fans will continue to grow and rest assured, we have curated a show that will not disappoint them,” said Element X Strategies Director and CEO, Jason Yap.
“The Japanese tuners and exhibitors who took part in 2023 were so taken aback by the reception of Malaysian fans that they will be back in a bigger way this year,” added MUSE Group Asia CE0, Riduwan Matni.
“Like the original show in Japan, a great deal of planning and preparation has gone into ensuring that the exhibits this year continue to supersede the expectations of fans. It’s going to be a supercharged experience for visitors and exhibitors,” he promised.
