After responding to an earlier issue with the brakes of an OMODA 5, Chery Malaysia has another problem to resolve after an owner named Stephanie reported on her Facebook page (www.facebook.com/snowbunnie) that the rear axle on her OMODA 5 ‘snapped clean off while driving’. In her detailed description, she said that it was fortunate that it did not occur at high speed, but it still caused the SUV to be immobilised in the middle of the road.
Pending investigation of the unusual occurrence, Chery Malaysia has issued this statement:
“Chery Auto Malaysia is committed to providing safe and reliable transportation solutions, and we are dedicated to ensuring that all our vehicles meet the highest safety standards.
We wish to provide an update on the recent matter regarding the axle of an OMODA 5 vehicle. Chery Auto Malaysia has contacted and is in communication with the customer. The vehicle has been brought to our service centre for a thorough inspection and investigation.
As a proactive measure and in line with our safety protocols, Chery Auto Malaysia is currently reaching out to the affected customers. For additional peace of mind, all customers who are concerned can book an appointment at their nearest service centre for a thorough inspection, all inspected vehicles will receive a full report.
In addition, and for added assurance to all Chery and OMODA customers who may have questions, the Chery Malaysia Customer Careline can be contacted at +603- 2771 7070.
Our sincere thanks to our customers and followers for your patience. We are committed to transparency and assure you of our unwavering dedication to quality and satisfaction.”
The mention of ‘reaching out to affected customers’ suggests that the company is taking pro-active action to get in touch with other OMODA 5 owners; whether it is recalling the vehicles for inspection is not known. But it offers an inspection of the area concerned, which is something that all owners should send their vehicle to an authorised Chery service centre for.
Since re-appearing in the Malaysian market, Chery has worked hard to try to erase the negative perception of the brand when it was in the market before. At that time, Chery left the business operations to a local partner. However, today, it is running the business itself with its own subsidiary handling sales and aftersales. This should mean better support for customers as brand owners will be more committed to looking after customers since they own the brand.
