There are many stakeholders in the quest towards electrification to achieve the government’s direction in order to fulfil the commitment to have net-zero emissions by 2050. Switching to electric vehicles is one of the ways of reducing emissions and in order to accelerate adoption of EVs, ensuring that there is a comprehensive nationwide network of EV charging stations is crucial.
The government has set a target of 10,000 charging points by 2025, and over the past 2 years, the private sector has been busy setting up the stations. At last count (at the end of April 2024), there were 2,214 charging points available.
Charging stations at Sunway properties
Helping to boost the numbers will be the Sunway Group, working in partnership with ChargeSini and Huawei Technologies. The three parties recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 for the installation of more EV charging stations at Sunway-owned premises, commercial buildings and residences nationwide.
While Sunway offers properties where the charging stations can be set up, ChargeSini and Huawei Technologies provide the expertise to set them up as well as manage them. ChargeSini, one of Malaysia’s biggest EV charging point operators, will procure, install and manage the operation of the facilities, while Huawei Malaysia will serve as the technology advisor during the development process and provide aftersales service support.
“Both public and private sectors have a role to play in the Malaysia’s national target to set up 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025, as outlined in the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030. Sunway is proud to partner Huawei Malaysia, once again, and ChargeSini to develop and to make EV charging stations more available and accessible across the nation,” said Sunway Trading & Manufacturing CEO, Yeoh Yuen Chee.

“ChargeSini is delighted to join forces with Huawei Malaysia and Sunway in this groundbreaking collaboration, a testament to our shared vision for a sustainable future,” said ChargeSini CEO and Founder, James Goh. “Leveraging Huawei Malaysia’s advanced technology and Sunway’s prestigious developments, ChargeSini is committed to creating an efficient EV charging network that will benefit communities across Malaysia and beyond.”
“This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering sustainable urban development and mitigating carbon emissions. Together, we fuel the Malaysia 2050 Net-Zero Mission,” added Mr. Goh.
