Motorsports enthusiasts and Honda fans will know the name MUGEN well. Though not a subsidiary of the carmaker, MUGEN has long been associated closely with Honda. In fact, the company was even founded by Sochiro Honda’s son.
However, Honda’s founder never gave MUGEN any special privileges even though it was his son’s company, but the two companies’ engineers worked closely. MUGEN has specialised in performance products cars and motorcycles (mainly Honda, of course) and has been involved in Formula 1 racing cars.
MUGEN and Casio have been partners in motorcycle endurance racing in 1985. Now MUGEN, which is 50 years old, has collaborated for the first time with Casio to introduce a watch in the EDIFICE range.
The new ECB-40MU is perfectly suited for the EDIFICE range which embodies the motorsports worldview with the brand concept of ‘Speed and Intelligence’,
MUGEN colours and logo
The ECB-40MU MUGEN’s brand colours of white, red, gold, and black on many elements, set against an overall black design. Together with the MUGEN brand logo, the Eye Commander logo, which symbolizes the spirit of MUGEN, is embossed on the band.
A really nice detail is the engraving on the bezel which features the font used on shift knobs made by MUGEN. Such special details give this watch the singular look that only a limited edition model can impart.
In addition to the carbonfibre-reinforced resin case and the 4-lug design inspired by the suspension used in Formula racing cars, the band is made of Alcantara, a material used in sportscar interiors which is known for durability and breathability.
Bluetooth Mobile Link
The ECB-40MU is equipped with Mobile Link, a Bluetooth connectivity feature, for pairing with a compatible smartphone. Using an app, it is possible to transfer stopwatch data and automatically make time adjustments as well as schedule alarms.
Besides the usual comprehensive features that EDIFICE watches have, the ECB-40MU also has a Super Illuminator double LED light with afterglow. For international travellers like racing drivers, there are time displays for 38 times zones and around 300 cities.
The ECB-40MU has a retail price of RM1,749 and will be available (until September 11, 2023) for pre-order from Casio’s website and Flagship Store in LAZADA. Thereafter, it will be available G-SHOCK Stores, G-Factory, and other Casio business partner shops from September 22, 2023.
