BYD Sime Motors offers EVs to Transport Ministry for 6 months

BYD Sime Motors, one of the early companies into the EV segment in Malaysia, currently sells the leading EV brand in the country. While the BYD vehicles it has put on the roads around the country are already making a positive impact on the environment as they have zero emissions, the company is going further to help advance the nation’s low-carbon mobility agenda.

Since the end of 2022, BYD Sime Motors has put thousands of EVs on Malaysian roads, supporting the nation’s low-carbon mobility agenda.

6-month programme
In collaboration with the Transport Ministry (MoT), BYD Sime Motors has initiated a 6-month programme called “Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT” which allows MOT personnel to test drive BYD’s full range of EV models. This will enable them to have a better understanding of EVs, particularly BYD’s innovative EV technology, so they can be better informed when making policies or regulations.

Full range of EV models
Through this initiative, BYD Sime Motors will loan the various models from its line-up to the MOT. At present, the range consists of the Sealion 7, Seal, ATTO 3 ULTRA, M6, and Dolphin. Using the EVs over an extended period will give the MOT personnel a better awareness of EV ownership and usability issues.

“BYD Sime Motors is proud to be at the forefront of this initiative in leading Malaysia’s transition to electric mobility together with the Ministry of Transport. We remain focused on our goal of supporting the Ministry’s carbon emissions reduction efforts. Through this immersive experience, we hope to encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles, not only by the public but also within government mobility users,” said Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director for Southeast Asia, Sime Motors.

Support from Gentari
Gentari is also supporting the programme by installing two 22 kW AC chargers at the MoT headquarters in Putrajaya. Gentari, one of the leading chargepoint operators, has over 520 charging points for EVs around the country, and will add more to help meet the national target of 10,000 public charging points by the end of this year.
